Recently we have seen a trend in summertime ankle sprains. Some of the most common orthopedic injuries such as ankle sprains have resulted from people tripping over their own feet while doing common household chores such as yard work, walking the dog, taking out the trash, and stepping off a ladder.
Ankle Sprains Equal Major Pain
The fact is, ankle sprains can be painful and equally as annoying to get stuck in a boot during the summertime. Not fun.
We have recently noticed an increase in patents with ankle injuries as a result of mundane household accidents. There are a few things you can do to keep yourself from getting stuck on the sofa elevating and icing an injury and back to (yard) work.
Outdoor Accidents – Ankle Injury Prevention
Take the following precautions to keep yourself safe while gardening, doing indoor household chores, or yard work. Household injuries are more common than you may think.
- Watch your step.
- Wear proper footwear with ankle support.
- Don’t rush or run.
- Be sure you walk through clear and lit paths.
- Clear the cutting area of potential flying objects, such as stones, toys, or debris before you begin mowing the lawn. Loose objects can project out of the lawn mower and cause serious injury.
