Walk-In Sports Physical

For athletes interested in playing school sports, a sports physical is usually required. Kids and teens need to get checked out by a provider to make sure they are healthy enough to take part in practices and competitions. But for busy families, it can be tough to find the time to schedule a physical.

At OrthoExpress, we offer sports physicals for athletes in the Birmingham area and all over central Alabama. Our orthopedic specialist providers will evaluate your athlete, complete the physical form, and see if the patient is ready to participate in sports. All with no appointment.

What to Expect at a Sports Physical

In every sports physical, you can expect the healthcare team to do a thorough assessment. They’ll use several approaches to make sure you’re ready to participate in competitive sports.

First the staff will get your medical history. They’ll want to know about your own history of surgeries, conditions, injuries, or illnesses. They’ll also ask about allergies and medications you currently take. You may also need to answer some basic questions about history of major illnesses in your family.

There will also be a physical exam as part of your sports physical. You can expect to have your blood pressure taken and your height and weight measured and recorded. A provider will also want to check your breathing and your heart. They may do some evaluation of your joints, posture, or other parts of your physique.

Sports Physicals at an Urgent Care

At an urgent care facility like OrthoExpress, you can expect the same kind of exam you would get at any other practice. But you won’t have to schedule and wait for an appointment. Our staff will be happy to evaluate you and get you either cleared to participate or get a plan to address any issues.
